The Myth of Free Shipping
Many shoppers have become used to “free shipping” for online purchases. This is just a reminder that shipping is never free, even for offers that specify “free shipping,” regardless of vendor or product. The cost of shipping and fulfillment is always factored into an item’s price, whether built in (“free shipping”) or added on (“separate shipping”).
Because some of our products are quite heavy—and often purchased in significant quantities—we prefer to offer our best prices up front, and then offer the best possible shipping costs to each customer on an individual basis. This prevents nearby customers from being overcharged, and distant customers from being undercharged, both of which would happen if we built the cost of shipping into our product prices and offered “free shipping.”
There might be a Loch Ness Monster, and Bigfoot may actually exist, but there are no free lunches, and there is no free shipping. Darn! As online shoppers ourselves, we wish it wasn’t so!
